Thanks for your comment. In your case the blog is not a complete product in itself. It is a product to support the main domain or the main business. Thus, I will recommend you to start a blog under your main domain. www.in-depthresearch.com/blog/

This will not only boost your website's performance, it will also keep the blog visitors in your own domain. And thats the best reason to start a blog in your own domain.

I am starting a blog that is very content centric. The whole idea is to use the content to help bolster the SEO of my company's website. As you mentioned, everyone says I need to host WP on our server. But, I'd prefer to use a custom domain with Blogger (its just so easy).

Two questions:

1. given this objective of bolstering the web site - do you believe a custom domain with Blogger is still a good idea?

2. What would the the URL be? My website is www.in-depthresearch.com. What would the blog's url be with a custom domain? www.in-depthresearch.com/blog?
